Beach Volleyball Club

History of the Team

SDSU Club Beach Volleyball was founded in 2024 with the mission of bringing competitive beach volleyball to San Diego State University while creating opportunities for women to develop their skills and compete at the collegiate level. What began as a small group of athletes passionate about the sport has quickly grown into an organized program dedicated to representing SDSU on the sand.

Earlier this year, the team reached an important milestone by earning official club sport status at San Diego State University. As one of the newest club sports on campus, SDSU Club Beach Volleyball is focused on building a strong foundation for future athletes while fostering a competitive and supportive environment.

The team competes in the Southern California Collegiate Volleyball League and the Collegiate Beach Volleyball Tour, regularly facing strong collegiate programs such as the UCLA Bruins and the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs while representing San Diego State University throughout regional competition.

Recent Successes or Struggles

As a newly recognized club sport, SDSU Club Beach Volleyball has already begun building momentum in its early seasons. The team has focused on expanding its roster, developing player skills, and establishing consistent training opportunities while competing against experienced collegiate programs.

One of the team’s biggest accomplishments this year was hosting the first-ever beach volleyball tournament organized by SDSU. The event brought together collegiate teams from across the region, including Arizona State University, and showcased the growing presence of beach volleyball at San Diego State. Hosting this tournament provided valuable competition for our athletes while helping introduce the sport to the broader SDSU community.

As the program continues to grow, the team is focused on building a strong competitive culture and creating more opportunities for athletes to compete at the collegiate level.

Highest Costs

As a developing club program, SDSU Club Beach Volleyball faces several essential expenses for training and competition. One of the team’s highest costs is securing court space for practices and competitions. Because San Diego State University does not currently have dedicated beach volleyball courts available for club use, the team must rent off-campus facilities to train and host events.

Additional expenses include coaching support, tournament entry fees, travel to competitions, and essential equipment such as volleyballs, nets, and team uniforms. As a student-run club team, many of these costs are covered through player dues and fundraising efforts organized by the athletes themselves.

SDSU Club Beach Volleyball represents an exciting opportunity to grow the sport and expand opportunities for women in collegiate athletics at San Diego State University. As a self-funded club team, we rely heavily on the support of donors, alumni, and community members to continue building and sustaining our program.

Every contribution directly supports our ability to train, compete, and grow as a team. Donations help cover essential expenses, including court rentals, tournament participation, coaching support, and equipment, allowing our athletes to compete at a high level while representing SDSU.
