Ice Hockey Club

The San Diego State hockey team was established in the early 1970s as a club-level program and initially competed in recreational leagues before joining the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Over the years, the team has made significant strides, focusing on player development and organizational growth, which culminated in their recent step up to Division I status within the ACHA, allowing our program to compete at a higher level and face more challenging opponents. Our leap to ACHA Division 1 marks a major milestone for the program, making us the only collegiate team in the state of California to compete at this elite level.

As part of our commitment to developing student-athletes, we emphasize not only athletic excellence but also academic achievement and personal growth. Our goal is to cultivate well-rounded individuals who excel both on and off the ice. Success in competitive environments fosters teamwork, discipline, and leadership, qualities that will serve our players in their future endeavors. We believe that by providing a supportive and competitive environment, we can help our student-athletes reach their highest potential, preparing them for success beyond their college careers.

However, with this advancement, our travel schedule has expanded significantly to meet the demands of our conference commitments. These additional visiting games have resulted in increased operational expenses, including airfare, lodging, and team meals with a projected budget of approximately $65,000 for this upcoming year. Additionally, the cost of securing valuable ice time in Southern California has increased, with our expected expenses reaching upwards of $70,000. In order to continue this legacy and support our vision, we need donations to manage the rising costs of operating the program. This financial support is crucial for enabling SDSU to provide student-athletes with opportunities to not only elevate the standards of our program but to promote ice hockey within the local community.
